It seems that with every new quadcopter release, both the features and performance greatly improve. The Eachine H8 however, is not only a great performing “machine,” but is possibly the best and most favorited quadcopter in its price range. Usually, when we first begin to experience a quadcopter that is priced under $20, we can almost expect beforehand that they’re likely not going to last very long. And while that used to be a reasonable expectation, seems to no longer be the case. Because now with the Eachine H8, you not only get to experience a great flying experience, but one that will sustain just about any crash, despite it’s miniature size and low price!

Dimensions & Specifications

While the Eachine H8 isn’t as small as say the Holy Stone Mini RC, which fits right in the palm of your hands, the Eachine H8 is definitely still considered to be miniature in size. The quadcopter comes in at just 5.3 x 5.3 inches and weighs in just less than 1 pound.

Yet despite its small size the Eachine H8 remains capable of flying up to 7 minutes at a 30 meter range. Even with its small size, the Eachine H8 has a variety of great features, making it an attractive drone and toy for many. The one feature the Eachine H8 does not have however.. is a camera! But just because it lacks this one feature does not mean you should consider passing this drone up.

Flight, Controls, & Durability

One of the reasons the Eachine H8 is being rated so highly is because it flies very smoothly proving itself to be a stable, reliable, fast drone capable of handling all sorts of flips. For its size, the Eachine H8 goes a long way in providing a quality flying experience, while being tough and sturdy for its size. This is hugely essential for any quadcopter weighing less than a pound.Eachine H8 Mini Headless Mode 2.4G 4CH 6 Axis RC Quadcopter RTF Review

When it comes to the controls, they are so simple and great for beginners and in addition, is a drone able to be flown both indoors and outdoors. An awesome feature included with the controls is the one press automatic return, allowing the quadcopter to automatically return you no matter where you are, helping to avoid potential loss. The Eachine H8 Mini also includes 4 led lights allowing you to fly it at night with ease. All in all, the controls are easy and responsive.

Last important thing to mention with the Eachine H8 is its headless mode. The headless mode is a great feature because what it does is it allows you to fly your quadcopter without having to pre-adjust its position. What this means is because quadcopters don’t have much of a front or rear end, it’s tough to tell where the front end goes before flying. With the Eachine H8 Mini, headless mode allows you to forgo this prerequisite allowing you take off to the skies in any which way you want.

Eachine H8 Features Summary

  • Uses a 6-axis system
  • Able to fly both indoors & outdoors
  • Various control capability: 4-way flips (left, right, forwards, and backwards) and 360 degree rolling
  • Headless Mode

Eachine H8 Overview

The Eachine H8 is a drone that’s likely to surprise you. Even at $17, this quadcopter is worth every penny and is best suited for those who don’t necessarily need a camera with their quadcopter. If you’re new to drones, looking to buy a gift for your child, or are just looking for a great drone to have in your arsenal, you can’t go wrong with the Eachine H8 Mini. This drone is great for a wide number of reasons..

It’s small and can be flown both in your bedroom or right in your backyard. It has a one press automatic return with 4 led lighting that makes it easier to know where your drone is at anytime of the day. It is sturdy and tough and able to sustain crashes unlike other quadcopters in this price range. Last of all, not only is the Eachine H8 Mini highly responsive and easy to control, but uses Headless Mode allowing you to take off without worrying what direction your quadcopter is taking off at.

  1. Before I left this comment, I emailed my son with you URL as he is very into qyadflying. He even has some designs of his own. He is a free member of WA. Wilkeway. You guys should probably hook up. I’ve seen the videos he has taken from the camera on his chopper and they’re quite impressive.

    • That’s great Kirk. Thank you for sharing this site with a fellow drone hobbyist! I would love to check out his videos sometime and am impressed to see he’s made some of his own designs. Definitely tell him to stop by here sometime!

  2. h8 mini quadcopter looks like it would be a lot of fun. I have two teen boys at home and it might just make a great Christmas gift.
I just started looking into these and thought they would be really expensive but in reading your article and finding out they are as little as $20 and rather durable, its definitely going on the boy list this year.

    • I know, isn’t the price just great. Almost makes it a no-brainer when contemplating it as a gift, especially for your boys! I especially like the reliability of the Eachine H8 Mini and are some fantastic looking toys!

I am quite honest when I say I barely know that much about this Quad-flying but i can attest to the fact that you have a well thought out website which folks can only take serious. Your layout is extremely appealing and your content meet all the criteria that i know. keep up the great work and you shall if not already have thousand and thousand of visitors each day. blessings!

    • Thanks, I really appreciate the compliments. I’m only hoping that both new drone users and long-time hobbyists feel the same way and find the information on this site to be useful to them!

  4. Hey, thank you for this useful information about the drone.
I was looking for a cheap drone like you have in your review that I can start with, because I was planning to buy a professional drone (the DJI PHANTOM 3) but as I looking for more and more information about the phantom, I understood that it’s better for me to start and practice with a cheap product, before I will fly a professional drone (nobody wants to crash a 1000$ drone into the wall lol).
Anyway, I think I found my first drone to try and fly.

    • No problem at all and I would definitely recommend starting out with a cheaper drone. I’m glad you found out this information beforehand before going ahead and purchasing the DJI Phantom 3. Although, that is definitely a quadcopter to consider down the line as you get more advanced!

And yeah, I definitely recommend using the Eachine H8 Mini to start practicing on.. But, if you are considering a more advanced drone, another better alternative than the Eachine Mini would be the Syma X5C-W since this is larger in size and uses features that are more similar to the DJI Phantom. This will allow you to get a better handle on flying drones that are for more experienced flyers. Thanks for dropping by, and I hope this helped! πŸ™‚

  5. Peter,
This Eachine H8 mini looks like it might be the best for a beginner. The small price is very attractive. The ability to fly headless, I have never heard this term before, is a great advantage to beginners. The night flying mode is a plus that I could put to use in my front yard with my son. Does this model come with extra parts or can you get parts and battery packs for it?

    • Couldn’t agree more John! The Eachine H8 is perfect for beginners and yes, the $17.99 price is unreal especially given the true quality of this drone. The Eachine H8 Mini does not come with extra parts, but one of the best parts is the fact you can get a battery pack of 5, which will keep you flying this all day. You can get a pack of 5 spare batteries for only $20, which isn’t bad at all!

Drones are an interesting subject. It is some what like having a robot. Your review of this drone is detailed and you covered all of its important features. I like the headless mode feature since it makes it easier to fly. How loud is this drone? You say it can fly for 5 to 7 minutes so is it gas powered? What is the top speed of this drone? If it were to hit someone while flying what are the chances that person would be injured?

    • Nope! It’s completely battery powered, which is great, as you can have some extra spares lying around allowing you to fly it as long as you want. Haha, I’m not sure Charles what the exact speed is, but it’s definitely a fast one. In regards to noise, the Eachine H8 Mini isn’t too loud.. To put it in better perspective, it’s not loud enough to say annoy your neighbors.

Another great question here Charles. I would say that for the most part, drones are safe to fly, especially the Eachine H8 Mini. It would be the larger and more advanced drones I would be worried about. But for the most part, injuries are very rare, which is why if you did get a larger drone I would definitely recommend flying it in a open space or area as they are definitely not out of the question.

  7. I have to say that this looks amazing for the price that you have stated. I enjoy flying mini copters as well, which can be a pain to get used to and my little one can not get to grips with it. However this looks like it may be something that he will be able to get the hang of. You say that it can withstand most crashes, lets say a young old lad was flying it as a learner, do you think it would last or just end up breaking too quick ? Look forward to your reply.

    • I hear you Mark. It will take time to get used to, but I have no question he won’t get the hang of it. The Eachine H8 Mini is one of the quadcopters I recommend most in particular because of how durable it is. Just make sure it’s switched onto beginner mode, and he’ll do great with it. I wouldn’t worry so much about him breaking it as the Eachine H8 was made to last!

  8. I think this would be a great first flying copter gift for my son. Especially that he is able to fly it around in his room and in the backyard. This can be a new hobby for him. The price doesn’t seem bad too.

Being that it’s not very expensive, I don’t have to spend a lot of money on something he may not like down the road. Thanks for the info.

    • Great way of looking at Evie. But I’ll take my chances in saying that buying your son the Eachine H8 Mini will make him very happy! I don’t know what kid wouldn’t want one of these. It’s almost like a real life video game πŸ™‚

Those are so cool, I’ve always wanted one after seeing them at like the Sprint store or something. But now I want a full size drone, that would be so cool. But i see that the flying time is pretty low on this one, I assume other ones that are a little more spendy emphasize on gaining some flying time, wouldn’t you think? Are there any better ones you can recommend me personally?

  10. Hi Peter,

Thanks for the great review. Very informative.
I’ve been curious about Quadcopters for some time now when I would see people flying them but I had no idea that they could be purchased at such a low price.
As you say it would be easy to think that a Quadcopter in that price range might be a bit flimsy but you put those fears to rest.
It’s certainly something I’ll look into for myself or as a gift.

    Cheers Patrick

  11. This is very interesting and sems to be perfect thing to have fun with like most of this robots are. Would love to take waterfull photos with it.

But you say it´s for beginners too but is it for all ages? How young can they be to start control it?

  12. Well this looks totally awesome – made me put on my ‘boys toys’ hat and sit back and admire. I’m 40 now and I wish so much they would have had this sort of thing when I was younger. I know the price is a bot steep but I’m sure there are budget versions right? Awesome device – gonna show this to my son!

  13. This is super cool The Eachine H8 has to be one of the most affordable Quadcopters/drones I’ve seen. I’m a big kid and would love one actually myself. I also love the automatic return feature. This alone to me is worth the purchase as these quadcopters can become quite expensive when you keep having to replace them. This is probably a must have holiday gift as well.

  14. Hi there! That’s a nice post you have created here.
Very nicely explained and easy for a reader to understand.
I will definitely come back to this site in the future.
I’m sure many people will find this article as useful and interesting as I did.
Thanks for sharing this nice information.
Cheers and best of luck to you.

This seems like an amazing quadcopter for the price! I cannot believe how long it can stay up and how far it can go, especially considering how very small and lightweight it is. This seems like a great product for beginners, which I am. Do you know what the power source is and how long it lasts on a single source? Is it a battery and if so, how long does a single charge last?

    • Yeah, the technology on todays quadcopters is really amazing and more importantly, is constantly being improved upon. The power source for the Eachine H8 Mini drone is a 3.7V 150MAH battery. The charging time on a single battery is about 45 minutes, which handles up to 5 to 7 minutes of flying time.

While this doesn’t sound like a lot, one thing you can do to effectively extend your flying time is by buying a pack of 5 batteries, which is also sold by Eachine. This will allow you to simply exchange the dead battery with a fully charged one. It is also important you let the drone rest for a minute or two between each session!

  16. Greetings Peter,

This was a very detailed and informative review. Actually, I had no idea that drones were so popular for ordinary people. I had just heard about their use in the military services.

This particular Eachine H8 Mini Drone seems to have a good performance rating at an affordable price. I’ll have to look into purchasing a few for myself. Thanks!

    • No problem at all Lina. Glad you enjoyed the review and that you found it helpful and informative. The Eachine H8 Mini is definitely a great little quadcopter, you’ll have plenty of fun with πŸ™‚

  17. The Eachine RC quadcopter looks awesome! I bought my dad and 2 brothers a mini quadcopter each last year for Christmas and they had so much fun around the house. Just don’t put your fingers near the blades because they flipping hurt!! Yes, even though the blades are tiny. LOL.

However, the H8 mini model you have specified here is so much cheaper than what I paid. The specs and handling sound great, and I may just have to buy one to be the 4th man to annoy my mom..

    • That’s amazing to hear Neil! I love stories of people buying drones as gifts for other people since people become so fascinated with the way these high tech gadgets fly. Drone prices definitely vary according to the features they have to offer and size of the drone overall.

It might be the case that the drone you purchased before wasn’t a nano or miniature like the Eachine Mini. It may have also included other features that this one does not. Nevertheless, the Eachine Mini is a great model for starters!

  18. Whoa! this thing looks awesome! Price point seems pretty reasonable also. I think these kind of reviews definitely help new comers to the hobby such as myself. Would you say this is a good beginner copter or should i try to look for something more basic? I’m still working on trying to get both my hands to communicate with my brain lol.

    • No the Eachine H8 Mini is definitely a good quadcopter to start out with. You can’t really go more basic than that. The only exceptions I would make is going with an Eachine E010 Mini Drone, which is a different but newer model than the H8 mini. If you wanted to take this even further, you could also go with the Holy Stone HS170 Predator, which is bigger in size (and a little pricier), but one I found to be an excellent starter drone for beginners due to its many functions!
